Humanity and hope shall thrive because there is still hope. At least the selfless and magnanimous act of Polish discus thrower Piotr Malachowski, who took silver at the Rio Olympics asserted this via his generous and extremely compassionate act. When he auctioned his Silver Medal to bear expenses for the treatment of a 3 year old boy suffering with cancer.
Discus throw world champion recently wrote on his Facebook page that he felt the urge to auction his priceless possession after receiving a letter from the mother of a boy named Olek struggling with eye cancer for quite sometime now. And if he were to be cured he would have to visit the specialists in New York and this demanded lot of money.
This motivated the World champion to auction his Silver Medal and this is how his Facebook post looked like:
“I fought for gold in Rio. Today I’m calling on everyone to fight for something even more precious. If you help me, my silver medal may turn out to be more precious than gold for Olek,”
He also wrote a note stating that he will donate the entire sum for the treatment of Olek.
Piotr Malachowski later confirmed via his Facebook page:
HireHere salutes the valor and generous act of this great Olympian who may have earned the Silver Medal at the #RioOlympics this year, but with this selfless act to help someone unknown, the medal is worth million Gold medals. Kudos!
